Photo of the day: Hidden Gems

Well I thought I had pretty well gone through my photos and picked out my favorites, the ones I was proud of. I learn again and again that when you have 8,000 photos you are probably bound to miss a few here and there. Yesterday I stumbled upon this photo that I don't ever remember seeing and I love it. It was taken at a fish market in Mumbai, hence the bird on top of her basket. She seems so concentrated with the chaos swirling around her.

Photo of the day: Side-Cook

Remember the village cook back at this post many moons ago?? Well here is his friend and side-cook (sort of like a sidekick but much better). I just love the color, his expression, his bearded scruff and of course those wrinkles. Portraits for me tell a very powerful story of someone's life. Thanks for reading, hope your Monday is lovely.

Epic Van Improvement

So party peoples. I promised you an update of the van so an update you shall get. Kris and our good friend James decided it would be an epic idea to put hard wood floors in our home. And when I say home I mean our VW Vanagon. So we found a good friend that had extra REAL hardwood floors from their house. Kris, James and Papa Dohse were able to install this bad boy in just a few hours. Basically I am in LOVE! I think it looks so beautiful. So enough of this chit chat let's see that beauty!

Photo of the day: Curly Locks

I love this photo just the way it is so I decided not to edit it. Maybe I'm being lazy or maybe I'm fighting against the machine of people who think that all photos should be edited. The update is done in the van so hopefully I'll have some photos up of that tomorrow. I'm ordering the prints today for our art show coming up in May, we are super excited about it. Life is good, spring is here in Flagstaff. Thanks for reading the blog. Happy Birthday to my brand new brother-in law, love you Jeff!!!

Gnome Sweet Gnome

Hello my darling blog readers! Kris and I are in Denver for the week doing tons of interviews, looking at some beautiful and some very ugly apartments and trying to imagine what our lives will look like in this lovely city. So, I will probably be out most of the week but I wanted to put up these two shots from our current home (sort of). We may spend a few weeks in the van before we move out to Denver. We are getting ready to do some exciting home improvements in the van so stay tuned for that.

Photo of the day: Guest Editor

Big day on the blog, I have a guest editor. She is this incredible photographer/ editor of photos and baker of cupcakes. Her name is Gail Kiehlbaugh, yes she's my mom but I think she's great. Can I hear a holla? So I asked her to edit one of my photos from India because I wasn't happy with what I was getting. Thanks mama, I think it's lovely. Let me know if you would like to be a guest anything on the blog. Editor, Blogger, Photographer, Baker, Poet writer, I'm open to anything, I love guests.

Sleepy Corn

This photo was taken at a family's home/ restaurant that we spent a lot of time at in Indonesia. It was corn harvesting season so they spent day and night separating the corn from the cob. The family dog also happened to find it a delightful place for taking naps. It took me back to this memory I have of visiting a farm with my cousin Dawn when we we're really little. The farmer let us run up and down their mountains of corn, it was glorious. I like to imagine that is how their dog remembers this day.

Photo of the day: Soloing Free

The boys decided to be brave and do some free solo climbing in Thailand. I wasn't so brave. The first photo is my favorite, the second just gives you some perspective from the other side of the rock so you can see what they were doing. You have to look for a second but you can see Kris and Eric both on the rock.

Photo of the day: "Where's Melissa?"

This photo was taken in the ruined city of Mandu. It's a town full of beautiful green hills and incredible remains of an 11th century fortress. I learned today that the city was once called Shadiabad which means the city of happiness. I think this photo accurately depicts a city of happiness. I love looking at the ground and see how many people actually made it in the air at the same time. Can you find me?

Photo of the day: "Take my photo"

I took this photo early one morning as Kris and I were walking through the streets of Calcutta on the way to the Mother Teresa' House. I don't even remember what I was taking a photo of, but this man saw me out with my camera and came up to us. In the shyest voice he asked if I would take his photo. I adore his smile, his eyes, he looks so excited and kind of scared. Just soak him in and have a wonderful Friday.
